A Thrilling Sunday Hike with Friends

On January 12th, my friends—Rosell, Bern, Rech, Al, and Zem—and I set out on an exciting adventure to Viper’s Peak, a stunning hidden gem in Toril, Davao City. To make the most of our day, we stayed at my place the night before, ensuring an early start to our hike.

Why is it called Viper’s Peak? Locals say the name comes from the vipers that supposedly inhabit the area! Luckily (or unluckily), we didn’t spot any during our visit, but they mentioned that sightings depend on the season.

How to Get to Viper’s Peak

Reaching Viper’s Peak is convenient and accessible. Here’s how:

🚗 By Private Vehicle: We drove about 30-40 minutes from my place and easily located the spot using Google Maps.

🚌 By Public Transport: Take a bus, tricycle, or motorcycle from Toril to the jump-off point.

Before heading to the trail, we grabbed coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts to fuel up for the journey.

Since our visit was just a day hike, we didn’t need to book a stay. However, if you’re looking for a place to relax after the hike, Lantaw Banud Overview Coffee Shop is highly recommended. They offer a cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and great coffee.

Our Experience at Viper’s Peak

Starting the year with adventure! 🌿🏞️

While Viper’s Peak is a relatively short hike, the journey is thrilling, especially the river trek to Panday Falls. If you visit during the rainy season, be cautious—the water current can be quite strong.

Hiking Tips for Viper’s Peak

✔️ Bring a dry bag – Essential for protecting your gadgets, especially during the river trek. My friend Zem brought one, which saved my full-frame Sony camera from getting wet!

✔️ Wear proper hiking shoes – The trail can be slippery, especially after rain.

✔️ Stay hydrated – Bring enough water to stay refreshed throughout the hike.

✔️ Hire a local guide – It’s affordable and ensures a safer, smoother experience.
